Mountain Camp is Back!

Remote Deer Hunting Tent Camp

deer hunting vacation rental cabins

Our remote wilderness tent camp has been expanded to take 8 hunters per week. Located north of Moosehead Lake in the "Big North Woods", Mountain Camp will be run by Wayne Hockmeyer as it has been for over 30 years.

As in the past, this camp is strictly a "trophy bucks only" camp, with a strict policy of no shooting does or small, immature bucks. Mountain Camp utilizes a large number of tree stands, and only hunters who wish to hunt from a tree stand should book this camp. When conditions allow, Wayne will often take a single hunter in good physical shape with him, and attempt to track or stalk a big buck. Mountain Camp hunts are for serious trophy hunters who understand the determination and effort required of the hunter and guide to be successful. There are no frills ... no bar, entertainment, or hot tub. It's all about hunting the old-fashioned way!

The camp has two 4 person tents, for guests, with propane gas providing heat and light. Each tent has 4 cots. There is a large cook/eating tent that also serves as the sleeping tent for the guides.

The history of Mountain Camp speaks for itself. Over a period of 30 years, this hunting camp has taken more giant bucks than any other guide, outfitter, or hunting camp in Maine. Northern Outdoors is proud to once again offer this unique opportunity to shoot the trophy buck of a lifetime!

Muzzleloader - Week of December 1st thru 6th, 2008

We are going to open up Mountain Camp to those who wish to book a muzzleloader hunt. Maine has very liberal muzzleloader laws. It allows any caliber muzzle loader of 40 caliber and up, this includes in line guns, scopes and rifled barrels. It allows hunters to use a very accurate, reliable weapon that can compete with today's modern rifles at moderate distances. It's sole limitation is that it is essentially a single shot weapon, but this in not a great handicap for a competent hunter.

The last week in November is usually an excellent week. It is cold, the last of does are still being bred, and there are very few hunters in the North Woods. We have had 4 weeks to figure out where the best concentrations of deer are located and they are bunching up or already going to yard. We will have a two up snowmobile in camp and if the snow is deep we will bring in another to get hunters where the deer are. You must bring warm clothes. There are few places that will give you a better chance to take a record buck for the muzzleloader category. The cost of the hunt is the same as the regular season.

For further information about these hunts, as well as pricing, please visit Wayne's web site at www.captainoutdoors.com, or call him directly at 207-663-0971 or 305-240-0825. Northern Outdoors acts only as the booking agent for Mountain Camp. All questions must go through Wayne directly. Once you have finalized your hunting date with him, Wayne will contact us with the details. We will then contact you to confirm your reservation. Please be aware that Wayne is totally in control of all aspects of Mountain Camp hunts, and any changes he might make, or requests you may have, must go directly through Wayne.
